“ The God Of Increase ” (cont.)
In this month’s e-newsletter we are continuing with a theme we began some months ago on “ The God Of Increase.” We used as a text for this series scriptures found in Psalm 115.
Psalm 115:12-14 , “ The Lord has been mindful of us: he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron. He will bless them that fear the Lord, both small and great. The Lord shall increase you more and more, you and your children.”
God is a God of increase. Increase is part of His being, His nature. In every realm of our lives, God wants us to experience more of Him. In our walk with Him, in our knowledge and understanding of Him. He wants us to experience more of His presence and anointing. His desire is that we grow and develop in the fruit of the Spirit.
We have discussed specific areas of increase from the Word of God. First and foremost , we are to increase in the knowledge of God. Colossians 1:9-10. Secondly, we can and should be increasing in love one towards another. I Thessalonians 3:12. Next we discussed the importance of increasing in godliness or holiness. II Peter 1:5-8. I want us to consider now another important area in which God has made it possible for us to increase and to excel in.
(4.) God wants His children to increase in giving and receiving.
II Corinthians 8:7 , “ Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.” The specific area of God’s grace that Paul is referring to in this verse has to do with the grace of giving. And if you study carefully this entire chapter 8 as well as chapter 9, Paul is dealing with the subject of giving and receiving in the financial area of life.
Friend, giving is the greatest blessing in the Body of Christ. In fact, giving is the chief expression of love. Not words. Not promises made to another. Love is an action, not a feeling. The scripture teaches that “ God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son…” ( John 3:16 ). Giving is not just about money, rather it is an indication of one’s heart attitude.
It is an attitude that reveals a life completely sold out to the plan and purpose of God. Genesis 8:22 reveals to us that even as God set in motion the natural laws that govern seedtime and harvest as it relates to natural seed sown in the earth, so has He instituted spiritual law that governs the financial side of seedtime and harvest, giving and receiving, sowing and reaping.
God has a way for His children to prosper and to be blessed financially. I realize some get upset when you begin to talk about some of these areas, but the Bible is very clear on this subject. God is a rewarder of those who obey Him. He is a respector of faith. It takes faith to give. The world’s way of financial prosperity is to work hard, make lots of money and hold on to as much as you can. But God’s Kingdom laws are in direct opposition to the ways of this world’s systems.
The world says, “ get all you can and keep it.” But Jesus said, “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you give it shall be measured back to you.” The scriptures tell us that God loves a cheerful giver ( II Corinthians 9:7 ) !
You can work 2 and 3 jobs and neglect your family. You can work 12-14 hours a day, and not get the proper rest you should. You can compile a fortune by overwork, burn your body out and become consumed by greed and driven to “succeed.”
Many have done just this, and many have died a premature death because their life was grossly out of balance. But God has a better way.
He wants us to discover His plan for our life. What our life’s work is to be. And then put our hand to it with diligence, and do it as unto the Lord. He wants us to worship Him with the firstfruits of all our financial increase. To honor Him with the tithe, the first ten percent of all of our income. His plan is that we be generous and liberal in our giving to others, and live in God’s abundance.
Galatians 6:7 ( Phillip’s Translation ) “ A man’s harvest in life will depend entirely on what he sows.” And we must always keep in mind that our primary motive in giving is to be as an act of worship unto God. We give in order to be a blessing. And we give in faith, expecting God to multiply the seed we have sown. God’s laws of giving and receiving are so powerful that even a “down” economy cannot prevent them from working on our behalf. Even though we live on the earth, we must always keep in mind that we are citizens of a Kingdom that cannot be moved ! God’s Kingdom laws function regardless of the circumstances we face all around us. They are higher, better and more powerful than the natural order of things in the earth.
I challenge you today to be faithful in worshipping God with the tithe ( Malachi 3:8-12 ). Be a cheerful, hilarious, prompt to do it giver when the Lord deals with you to do so. Put faith behind your giving. Be a sower. Look for people and places in which to sow. Support the work of the local church. Sow into missions, into World Evangelism. And get ready to reap !
